Locations of Species Wiped out by Domestic Cats

Obviously does not include all of the species wiped out, only a few

  • Yellow - Birds

  • Black - Mammals

  • Green - Reptiles

    • Different shapes are just so that you can tell there are multiple species in one small area

Tibbles the Lighthouse Cat

  • It is widely believed that one cat, and one cat alone, wiped out a species of bird, called Lyall's Wren, on Stephens Island, off of New Zealand

    • Actually the work of a colony of feral cats accidentally introduced to the island

    • Lyalls Wren had actually been common throughout all of New Zealand

      • Predation from invasive species had confined it to just that one small island

      • Within two years of the introduction of feral cats, the wren became extinct

      • Colonists attempted to exterminate the feral cat colony, but it was already too late
